Greetings everyone!
Today’s discussion will center around the film, The Social Network. Personally, I love this film. I think it’s perfect and shouldn’t be changed in any way.
This film has been one of my favorites for a while now. I used to watch this film everyday when I was a freshman since it is a comfort film of mine.
If you don’t know, this film is about the creation of Facebook. This is based off of a true story which in my opinion, makes it better, however, according to Google, it is considered a biographical drama film so keep in mind that some of the film is fiction. It not only goes through the creation of what is now the mega-popular social media site Facebook but also the aftermath and build up to its popularity.
Mark Zuckerberg is played by Jesse Eisenberg and his friend turned business partner turned enemy, Eduardo Saverin, is played by Andrew Garfield.
As you all know, I am a fan of Andrew Garfield and I didn’t know he was in this film when I first decided to watch it. Jesse Eisenberg is who drew me to the film to begin with, along with the social media aspect. If you didn’t know, I am also a big fan of Mr. Eisenberg.
I could go through all the movies I have seen with Jesse Eisenberg but I will spare you the drama. I love him for the role because he has an awkward vibe around him. I feel that that weirdness was necessary to play Mark Zuckerberg. I also think that he gave the right amount of cockiness to the role that (I feel) was required.
If you have been keeping up with our weekly discussions, you will know everything I love about Andrew Garfield. I obviously think he was perfect for this role as well (I’m biased) but I don’t know of Eduardo Saverin in real life. We all know the name Mark Zuckerberg and why we know it, but not Mr. Saverin.
I also want to mention that Armie Hammer is also in this film and he played two roles, twin brothers. I don’t know if he is a household name but I know he was really popular when Call Me By Your Name was released (I recommend, but I would read the “about” before you watch it) which is actually where I knew him from first.
I also want to mention that Justin Timberlake is in the film. I’m not necessarily a fan of his but I don’t see him acting a lot so it feels important to mention here.
This film is the perfect mix of comedy and drama. It kept my attention all the way through and feels like it’s only 30 minutes long. I don’t know who this film is geared towards, but I feel as though it could be for everyone and also niche at the same time. Maybe I only feel this because there isn’t anyone in my life that has watched it but that’s my opinion nonetheless.
If you want to watch it, it is on amazon prime for a small fee. Unfortunately, this isn’t a free movie but if I remember correctly to buy the film is less than 10 dollars. I don’t remember if there is an option to rent the film, but I think it is worth it to buy it if you’re going to watch it three times or so.
If you’re looking for a quick film, background noise or a new comfort film; I will always recommend The Social Network.
