We Live In Time: One of My Most Anticipated Films

Photo from Internet Movie Poster Awards      Film: We Live In Time Director: John Crowley Length: 1h 44m Genre: Romance/Comedy Rating: Restricted Released: Oct. 18, 2024      I have returned!         So, as mentioned in the title, this was one of my most anticipated films of the year. While it was a good film, it wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be but I'll say that after watching it a second time I think I like it better than I originally did. I like how it’s tastefully funny and not cheesy even though it is a comedy. I believe my expectations were so high because of the cast, but also because the film was produced by A24, which has quickly become my favorite production company.  Usually, the films I watch produced by A24 are eerie and unnerving because that (among other things) is what the company is good at. I think that since this was a romantic comedy and I'm not used to seeing A24’s take on that ge...

It Ends With Us: The Book Was Better

Photo from Internet Movie Poster Awards Film: It Ends With Us  Director: Justin Baldoni Length: 2h 11min Genre: Romance/Drama Rating: PG-13 Released: Aug. 9, 2024      Happy Thursday!     I know usually I write about a film in theaters and a film on a streaming platform, however plans change and things happen. I didn’t feel like I was ready to write about the film I was planning for today’s post, so that will be postponed until this upcoming Tuesday. For today, I want to talk about It Ends With Us. I do know this film was just in select theaters again for a limited time if you’re interested in seeing it. If I am being honest, after seeing it when it came out and sitting on my thoughts for a while, I’ve decided that I didn’t really like the film. For the sake of this blog, I think it’s good that I didn’t really like it so I don’t just write about what I do like. Two things you should know about me is I am a big romance reader, so of course I read the bo...

Beautiful Boy: A Beautifully Ugly Story

Photo from Internet Movie Poster Awards      Film: Beautiful Boy   Director: Felix Van Groeningen Length: 2h Genre: Drama Rating: Restricted Released: Sept. 7, 2018 Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video      Welcome back!      Going back to the last blog’s comment on comfort films, I can’t even remember how many times I have seen the film of choice for today’s topic, Beautiful Boy. Similarly to last week, I think this film is so underrated and is another film that I can’t recommend enough. Now, I might live under a rock, but everyone I have mentioned this film to hasn’t watched it. I know I originally watched it because Timothee Chalamet plays Nic Sheff, one of the main characters, and I was going through a Timothee Chalamet phase at the time (it’s not a phase.) To my surprise then, it was beautifully made even though the story itself can be described as ugly since there isn’t anything pretty about addiction. Truly,...

Don't Worry Darling: An Underrated Psych Thriller

Photo from Internet Movie Poster Awards     Film: Don’t Worry Darling     Director: Olivia Wilde    Length: 2h 2m    Genre: Psychological Thriller/Mystery    Rating: Restricted.     Released: September 23, 2022    Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video      Hello again!       Let me just say, I saw this film in the theater when it first came out but I hadn’t watched it again until recently. Quite truthfully, I forgot about it because I couldn’t immediately watch it again on a streaming platform. Do not let that deter you; I have no idea how I am just coming back to the film because it is such a good film. Then again, the film stars Harry Styles and Florence Pugh so it could never really be bad.       I love Ms. Pugh; she is definitely one of my top favorite actresses and I truly could probably write a whole post about her. She just has this amazing t...

Lee: A Film That Should Win an Oscar

Photo from Internet Movie Poster Awards Film: Lee Director: Ellen Kuras Length: 1h 52m Genre: War/drama Rating: Restricted.   Released: Sept. 27 2024 (US)      Welcome!      I am so excited for the first true entry on Reel Thoughts, and I couldn’t have picked a better film even if I tried. On Sept. 30 I saw the film Lee for the first time and on Oct. 8 I saw it a second time. Going into this, I knew nothing about the film or Lee Miller except what was shown in the trailer. Even so,  it has quickly become one of my favorite films of all time and definitely the best film I have watched all year. After seeing the movie two times and doing research on Lee Miller Archives, I wish I was told her story before now. It has quickly become one of my favorite films and definitely the best film I have watched all year.       I would be disappointed if this film isn’t nominated for an Oscar, especially due to its cinematography. About Me: Welcome to the Jungle

ABOUT ME! I'm so glad you're here!      Welcome to Reel Thoughts. I, Kalin, will be your fearless leader. Movies are something that I am passionate about and I want to share that passion with YOU and encourage others to watch more movies.      If you like movies, need a recommendation on what to watch, want to be in a cinema related community, want to gain new perspectives or just be entertained with movie talk, this blog is for you. I want to encourage others to watch more movies.       I’ve heard it many times, “but I don’t have the attention span to sit down and watch a movie,” and that may be true. I think that if you find a genre, director or actor/actress you like, and sit down to a film (with your favorite snack and beverage, of course) it will feel like 30 minutes. Just try it!  I’ve always been movie oriented rather than television show oriented, so needless to say I have seen my fair share of movies. I swear my frie...
